The funds will provide urgent financial assistance to small businesses affected by the catastrophic floods that swept through Kerr County and surrounding areas in early July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1a4713329383eed325045812d397cc80\">\u201cAWA\u2019s heart is with every family and small business owner whose life has been upended by these floods,\u201d said Neil Peterson, President of AWA. \u201cWe know the road to recovery is long, but we believe in the unbreakable spirit of entrepreneurs and the profound role they play in the heart of our communities and economy. We want to provide hope and a measure of comfort to those who have lost so much, and our goal is to help them rebuild with the same spirit that fuels this region. Even in the darkness, light is still on the way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AWA\u2019s $50,000 contribution will directly support LiftFund\u2019s disaster relief grants, 0%-interest rate loan programs, and other resources for small business owners in 16 Texas counties. Grant and loan recipients can use the money to cover critical needs, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payroll<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lost inventory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Temporary closure costs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repairs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other essential business continuity needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/milkeninstitute.org\/content-hub\/insights\/improving-small-business-disaster-response-and-recovery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FEMA data<\/a> indicates that up to 40% of small businesses are at risk of closing if they cannot quickly secure financial support after a disaster. Even worse, an additional 25% could close within one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LiftFund, a nonprofit community lender based in San Antonio, Texas, champions quick relief funding, understanding that timing is everything. For the past three decades, they have supported small businesses through historic disasters, including Hurricanes Katrina, Beryl, and Harvey, the California wildfires, and the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-primary-light-background-color has-background\">\u201cWe are grateful to the Affiliated Workers Association for their generous support of our Hill Country Disaster Relief Initiative,\u201d said Amy Hereford, LiftFund President and CEO. \u201cTheir contribution is helping us deliver critical financial assistance to small business owners working to recover and rebuild after the devastating floods. With partners like AWA, we can strengthen local economies, support resilient entrepreneurs, and help communities move forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of August 13, LiftFund has received close to 300 applications and funded over 200 grants. Applications are still open, and the review process continues. Once grant applications close, the 0%-interest rate loan applications will remain open as businesses work toward long-term recovery.
